The Blue Origin NS-25 Mission

  • Significance: The NS-25 mission marks the first crewed flight for Blue Origin’s fully-reusable New Shepard rocket since NS-22 in 2022. The fleet of rockets had been grounded due to an engine failure during an uncrewed mission in September 2022 but resumed flying in December 2023.
  • Historic Moment: Gopi Thotakura’s inclusion in the NS-25 crew makes him the first Indian civilian space tourist. He follows in the footsteps of Wing Commander Rakesh Sharma, who became the first Indian citizen to venture into space in 1984 aboard the Soviet Soyuz T-11 rocket, spending over seven days aboard the Salyut-7 space station.
